A consequential carrier’s address with 140 lines devoted to the 1848 election and 42 lines devoted to the California Gold Rush. The election poem is nuanced and insightful regarding the politics of the day. It appears the Patriot was a whig paper and favored Zachary Taylor. I’m speculating that this came from the Barre, VT, Patriot and not some other Patriot because of its similarity to the 1850 Barre VT Patriot carrier’s address in your holdings. $500
39-3. [19th Century Calligraphy] G. Hall. Family Record of Horace Batcheler… c. 1865. Calligraphic document. Reveal: 15.75” x 13”. VG with light staining to the upper left and upper right quadrants. Horace apparently followed his father into the trade, building his own house and others during his lifetime (1819-1900). This beautifully rendered document is enhanced by three carte de visites of the subjects, Horace, his wife Betsy, and their son, Horace. We have been unable to identify other works by the talented Hall. Unique. $500
